The Rose Hafla asks members of the Scottish Bellydance Community in 'The Interview Sessions.' We find out how they started bellydancing, highlights of their dance journey so far, inspirations and top tips!

How did you start bellydancing?

We all met at bellydance class!


Your Top 3 highlights of your dance journey to date?
  • Taking part in Whitton's Saint George's day parade and performing

  • Organising and putting our own show on and raising £400 for charity

  • Taking part in The Richmond Live Festival & dancing in front of Marble Hill House


The troupe support & friendship all through the pandemic. We still continued to meet and rehearse every week on Zoom.


What inspires you to keep dancing?

Friendship and sisterhood

3 dancers (past or present) that inspire you and why

Marta Korzun because:

  • She is a beautiful dancer and performer

  • Has precise technique

  • Has confidence but humbleness too


Samia Gamal because:

  • She has such femininity

  • Dances in complete harmony to the music

  • Translates the music in to movement

  • Her determination - she didn't give up on her dream of a career in dance


Shona Hagan because:

  • Her sass! She owns that stage

  • Energy & stage presence

  • Her confidence


Share a Top Tip for new or existing bellydancers
  • Practice regularly

  • Rehearse your stage entrances and exits

  • Arrive to performances on time

  • Costume details, especially when dancing in a group, such as matching nail varnish, jewellery, footwear & make up
